I have been using this for years and it is second to none. It makes makeup look better and last longer. The first step to any great close-up is great skin—skin that’s free of the appearance of fine lines and pores. Think of this primer as the original blur—and an essential for prepping makeup every day.
I tried this first a couple of years ago when I took a Guerlain “Smoky Eye” Master Class – and it is totally worth it. Applied onto bare skin, the 24-carat gold-infused formula smooths away fine lines, tightens, gives an even finish, and long-lasting moisture to the complexion. I don’t use this every day, but it is definitely a must for special occasions or any extra-amazing makeup days.
My mother is a Mary Kay consultant, so she always gives me the best beauty baskets when they feature new products or seasonal colors. However, there is one thing that has not changed for the last 7 years: my foundation. It is infused with vitamin E and a blend of peptides, and provides all-day shine and oil control without a heavy makeup look or feel. I tend to go on “no makeup” binges for things like mascara and concealer, but this I cannot be without since it also lets my skin breathe. I love layering it as well; one layer for daily use, two or more for bad skin days or a night out. I also love that it is transfer- and humidity-resistant.
My sister-in-law introduced me to this tubed magic, and now I carry it on my person wherever I go. Great for covering up any kind of blemish, but I also like to use it on my nose, where I know I touch my face a lot so makeup wears off more easily. Well, this stuff isn’t going anywhere. It’s a heavy duty, highly pigmented, transfer- and water-resistant, multitasking concealer.
CHANEL – JOUES CONTRASTE Powder Blush in Rose Petale
I use this every day as a highlight to give a healthy glow and accentuate my cheekbones. It gives a natural look that is subtle and youthful, and it has a silky texture for easy application.
At least once a day I am asked what I use to get the finished look for my skin, from my hair stylist, to my students, to my cousin in-law. Well, here it is: TA-DA! It glides on effortlessly, camouflages, hydrates, and blurs fine lines, never settling into them. It feels like a second-skin, oil-free powder foundation that can be used wet or dry.
Skilled hands for cat-eyes every day call for this perfect paintbrush. The superfine and flexible brush tip glides across the lashline for incredibly fluid application, allowing you to create a variety of looks with ease.
No fuss – just plain good mascara that feathers the lashes. I am a sucker for the traditional brush instead of the new silicon/plastic brushes, and this wand is huge, with plenty of bristles. Great for top and bottom lashes, this mascara is great with one coat or layered, and never gets the tarantula look no matter how thick you lay it on.
Lately, I have been trying to grow out my brows to seek a more Cara Delevigne-esque look, and it’s not always pretty – they need some taming! Dior’s backstage inspired, ultra-fine precision brow pencil really does the trick. The retractable does not require sharpening, and the brush on the opposite side neatly sweeps brow hairs into place.
Mally’s Lip Fence is one of the easiest ways to professionalize your lip look. It keeps your lipstick and lip gloss in place without a telltale line. Just gorgeous, professional-looking lips. And, no need for a million different color lip liners to go with each of your lipsticks, no matter how seasonal. Also, what a plus that it’s not tested on animals!
I first wore this color on my wedding day (picture above) and fell in love with it. I wear this as an everyday color, as well as for a more neutral lip when I am doing a heavy eye for a night look. It goes on pretty sheer, but you can layer it for heavier, more pigmented coverage. It goes really well with most complexions, and – oddly enough – I love the way MAC lipstick smells so sweet! Also love Candy YUM-YUM (hot pink) and Up The Amp (fuschia/purple).
When I was younger, I never liked red lips on myself. This was probably because on my dance team, everyone had to wear the same exact shade for each performance or competition, regardless of whether it complemented your look or not. Now, I’m all grown up and I have finally found my big girl red lipstick that I can wear for day or night. It glides on smoothly, stays put, and imparts a non-glossy, high-fashion matte finish.
A staple, no explanation needed. It was also a no-brainer for my wedding day: hands and feet. You have to have it in your arsenal, or at least know it by sight at the salon. Sure, it’s always fun to do seasonal colors like emerald or a taupey-lilac, but you always come back to the classics.
